Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring

(ABPM)

Test that measures your blood pressure over a 24-hour period. It can help to diagnose hypertension and determine how well your blood pressure is controlled by medication.

Ambulatory electrocardiogram ECG:

(Holter Monitoring)

Test that records your heart’s electrical activity over a 24-hour period or more. It can be used to diagnose arrhythmias and other heart conditions.

Angiography and Angioplasty:

(Stent placement)

Procedure used to open narrowed or blocked arteries. A catheter is inserted into an artery in the arm or leg and threaded to the narrowed or blocked artery. A balloon is then inflated in the artery to widen it. A stent, which is a small mesh tube, may then be placed in the artery to keep it open.

Cardiac catheterisation:

Procedure used to examine the heart’s chambers and blood vessels. A catheter is inserted into an artery in the arm or leg and threaded to the heart. The catheter can be used to inject dye into the heart’s chambers and blood vessels, which can then be seen on an X-ray.

Cardiovascular screening:

Set of tests that can be used to assess your risk of developing heart disease. The tests may include blood pressure measurement, cholesterol testing, and an ECG.

Cardioversion:

Procedure used to restore a normal heart rhythm. An electric shock is delivered to the heart through the chest wall to stop an abnormal heart rhythm.

CT coronary angiography test:

A non-invasive test that uses X-rays to create images of the coronary arteries. It can be used to diagnose coronary artery disease and to assess the severity of the disease.

Echocardiogram:

Test that uses sound waves to create images of the heart. It can be used to diagnose heart valve problems, heart muscle problems, and congenital heart defects.

Electrocardiogram:

(ECG)

Test that records your heart’s electrical activity. It can be used to diagnose arrhythmias and other heart conditions.

Heart failure treatment:

Treatment plan that helps to manage heart failure. The plan may include medication, lifestyle changes, and surgery.

Implantable loop recorder:

(ECG Recorder)

A small device that is implanted under the skin in the chest. It records your heart’s electrical activity for a period of time. It can be used to diagnose arrhythmias that are not detected by a regular ECG.

Non invasive cardiology diagnostics:

A range of tests that are used to diagnose and manage heart conditions without the need for surgery. The tests may include ABPM, ECG, echocardiogram, and CT coronary angiography.

Secondary hypertension:

Hypertension that is caused by an underlying medical condition, such as kidney disease or an endocrine disorder.
